TURNFORD OPEN NETBALL TOURNAMENT 12 JUNE 2010
The U14's were determined to show the squads they were competing aginst and just why they had made the national U14 finals. Their determination and grit throughout the day proved just that with matches winning against Christchurch 17-0, Hatfield 12-3, Nottingham City 14-1, Crosskeys 11-2, Hornets 11-3, Brookshaw Stuart 18-1. This comfortably put them into the semi finals against Poole. This was to be a tough match with the ball going from one end to the other with neither squad losing their focus. The game went into extra time and great defending from Stephanie Lewis-Smith intercepting a centre pass enabled Turnford to take the lead. The 100% shooting accuracy of Jessica Merulla and Lottie Morrison kept that one goal lead and Turnford went into the finals winning 8-7. With almost a straight turnaround for the finals Turnford went in somewhat drained and although they went up in the first half they could not manage to keep their exhaustion at bay and went down losing 5-6. But coach Carole Titmuss was extremely proud of their play and as this medal will sit nicely with the medals they have won from every tournament entered so far this season.
CROSSKEYS TOURNAMENT - SUNDAY 28TH MARCH
Turnford entered with only the bare 7 into this age group having their goal shooter and centre absent. They started the day off against local rivals Hornets but with the accurate shooting of Lottie Morrison slotting them in goal after goal they ran out winners 14-3. The next match they came up against their own club side, Turnford's U13 - who played with determination and grit and took the U14 talented side by surprise and the score at the end of the game was 4-4. Their coach Carole Titmuss continued to try out different combinations to try and get the right one with the seven players present. The next game against Poole from Dorset was, they knew, going to be a tough competitive match but to Turnford's dismay they went down losing by one goal.
Moving into the 4th game, Carole believed she had sorted the right combination with Kate Green fitting nicely into the shooting position, with accurate feeds being delivered by Scarlette Barnes and Lauren Drabwell they went forward to beat Hatfield Eagles 16-0.
The following match against Asco continued inthe same vein and the tight defending of Stephanie Lewis-Smith, Nina Pattison and Devon Ricketts making turnaround after turnaround, helped the squad rund out winners 17-1. The squad did not come away from this winning steak for the rest of the tournament, beating Crosskeys 8-4 and Hatfield A squad 10-5. But alas that one goal loss meant they ended the tournament as runners up, with Poole lifting the winners shield. However, the whole squad worked hard to achieve an outstanding goal difference, which they should be rightfully proud of.
EAST REGION FINALS 2010
TURNFORD U14's v FLAMES U14's
In a superb contest of power, strength and skill Turnford's Essex neighbours fought tooth and nail but were unable to retain their lead as the superior class of the Turnford side won the day.
In an absolute pulsating game where the action was breath taking and the atmosphere electric. The Turnford girls held their nerve against superb opposition.
The first quarter set the tone for the whole game with play being conducted at break neck speed. Within the first few minutes Turnford were behind by 3 goals, losing the first quarter 9:8. However, regrouping after the initial loss they roared back to lead 17:14 at half time.
The third quarter saw the play getting even faster and the noise echoing around the court only added to the drama and excitement. But Turnford's defence made many turnarounds and put them in the comfortable position of leading 30:19. This set the pace for the remainder of the match and no matter how hard the Essex side fought they could not catch up.
This Turnford team's superior skill and fitness started to show through and they began to take control of the game, stretching their lead to see them win the match 42-25.
High hopes are expected from this talented squad as they go through to the next game against Norfolk on 21st March.

EAST REGION CHAMPIONSHIP
TURNFORD U14 v WYVERN
In the first round of this competition to decide who will have the honour of representing the East Region at the All England National Finals in May, Wyvern from Bedfordshire were the first encounter for the Turnford U14s.
A good start in the first quarter for this young squad and tight defending from player of the match Nina Pattison, Stephanie Lewis-Smith and Kate Green prevented the U14 Bedfordshire Champions from putting too much on the score sheet and at the end of this first quater Turnford were leading 12-5.
The squad continued with this focused paly and the fast legs of centre Rebecca Suzan defending and attacking with equal aplomb, linked well with goal attack Lottie Morrison, and along with her shooting partner Jessica Merulla ended the first half with a 25-9 lead.
The third quarter saw the fresh legs of Bethany Hatherly in the GD position and Devon Ricketts as WD. They came on with gusto, making many turnarounds, and with the excellent feed into the circle of the WA Scarlett Barnes, at the end of the third quarter the score lay at 39-18.
The fourth quarter continued in the same vein and with Lauren Drabwell making her appearance as WA ensuring her availability at every attacking centre pass Turnford looked set to breeze through. Then a slight mishap occurred with Turnfords centre taking a fall but reserve, 13 year old Ellie Newman took to the court with determination and confidence helping Turnford win 49-24.

They met Flames from Essex in the finals and these proved to be a tough and aggressive side, but the skilful Turnford side did what comes naturally to them. Scarlett Barnes and Rebecca Suzan fed positive balls into the circle, allowing shooters Jessica Merulla and Lottie Morrison to slot them in, running out winners 7-2. Coach Carole Titmuss was so proud of the complete squad effort, that it would be difficult to choose the outstanding player of the tournament, so congratulations went to all.

They ran out winners 9:5. This was their best performance ever and all players must be congratulated on their achievement.

Nottingham Netball Tournament 5th and 6th September 2009
With injuries and absences hindering them, this talented and versatile squad rose to the occasion.
Reduced to only the bare 7, the heroic efforts of players like the recently injured defence, Stephanie Lewis-Smith meant the squad had a fighting chance. Nina Pattison switched to GD and despite the change of pace in her new role she rose to the challenge.
Scarlett Barnes was placed in the pressurised position of Goal Shooter and certainly delivered. Versatile Kate Green moved from WD to WA and performed admirably. Devon Rickets, Lottie Morrison and Rebecca Suzan completed this exceptional line up.
Finishing third overall, the team were truly unlucky to have missed out on medals, losing only one game and drawing another . In the end, it wasn’t enough on the day and goal difference was their downfall. They beat Parkside 7-5, Yendies 11-1, Birmingham 14-4, Clifftonettes 18-0, Hartlepool 15-9, Essex 7-6, Ribble Valley 9-,6 Drew with Thameside 7-7 and lost to Oldham 11-6.

Next to that slaughter came NRG 24:0, followed by Mid Sussex 14:3, CD Phoenix 12:4, Weston Park 17:2 and Essex B 8:3. In the semi finals they were drawn against Southdown and the excellent defending skills of Kate Green and Devon Rickett ensured a win of 11:4. Turnford Juniors entered their first tournament of this year. Entering into the Saucony Competition held in Southampton. They were entered into the three age groups U11, U12 and U13. What a superb start to the season Turnford had.
The U13's played some magnificent netball showing maturity and depth. Their first match was against Essex, but they proved no competition for this strong side and ran out winners 8:1. Their next game was against the home team, Saucony, but the excellent defending of Nina Pattison, Kate Green and player of the tournament, Stephanie Lewis-Smith, proved too much for the opposing attacking side and Turnford won 15:0. Turnford continued in this winning vein, beating Brighton 11:1, Lymington 6:2. Then came their hiccup meeting Eagles from Bedfordshire. Turnford were up the whole game by three goals, but resting on their laurels and losing concentration, they lost the game 7:8. The next two games Turnford got back their determination and tenacity beating Wokingham 5:0 and Poole 8:3. Turnford Travel Down South - March 2008
Last weekend saw the first junior tournament of the season, with Turnford competing in the U11s, U12s and U13s sections of the Saucony Tournament held at the Basset Leisure Centre in Southampton.
The U12s were on fire, winning all their games throughout the rounds. With the 59 teams that had entered, they had scored the most goals during the tournament. This easy running did not prepare them well when they met local rivals Essex in the semi finals, and they lost by a single goal, pushing them out of the final play offs. The player of the U12s section went to Stephanie Lewis Smith for her sheer grit and excellent defending.
Turnford Fly High
An exciting time was had by the two young U12 squads that travelled to Jersey in January 2008 for the Channel Islands invitation tournament.
This was the first time for some of these young girls to fly and so the excitement commenced as soon as the girls met the coach at Broxbourne Civic Centre.
There were 16 teams that took part in this yearly event taking place at the Fort Regent Sports centre in Jersey, This tournament gave the Turnford girls some different opposition to many of the tournaments they had already played at. Turnford B although not winning many games had a very enjoyable tournament. The first match of the Turnford A side was against the home side Jersey but the excellent shooting of Lottie Morrison and Jessica Murrella allowed the squad to run out winners 6 goals to 3. Turnfords form continued throughout the day gaining wins over Jersey B 10-1 Guernsey A 14-2 Weston Park 11-1 Essex B 9-5. They met Jersey White in the semi finals and the excellent defending of Sophie Vassillou, making some fine interceptions, ensured Turnfords place in the final by winning 9 goals to 5. This was to be a tough final against local rivals Essex . At half time Turnford were leading by two goals, but sadly the cup was not to be theirs and in extra time Turnford lost by a single goal. The player of the tournament went to Rebecca Suzan for her sheer grit and determination.
