Pontins June 2009

The U13s were determined to give a good show. They have had an excellent season leaving every tournament entered with a medal and were not going to leave this final tournament empty handed. They played with grit and tenacity, starting the day against Treharres from Wales and beat them comfortably 12:0. This is how the day continued and the excellent shooting of Jessica Merulla and Lottie Morrison helped them to cruise through beating Hatfield 15:3, Conquerors 7:3, Fenton 7:4, Cliff Park 9:1, Birmingham 9:2 and Leamington 7:1, putting them through to the quarter finals the following day. As tempting as it may have been for these young ladies to sleep late and laugh loud, these girls were not going to miss out on their chance to complete their practically perfect season.  They came out of the starting block on fire meeting Eagles from Bedfordshire. The tight defending from Nina Pattison, Stephanie Lewis-Smith and Kate Green, allowed little past them and they ran out winners 8:1. With resolve and commitment they faced Woodley in the semi finals. The centre court play of Rebecca Suzan, Scarlett Barnes and Devon Rickett keeping the ball safe and feeding well into the circle, they came away 9:2 winners putting them into the finals against old rivals Poole from Dorset.  The game was tense and exciting and it was goal for goal and both sides were playing with such focus and courage, but as the final whistle went, Poole slotted in the winning goal.  Although the girls were disappointed, their coach, Carole Titmuss, said she was so proud of their excellent work this season and this will be the third year running that they have left every tournament with a medal.

Turnford entered the annual Hertford Hornets tournament in the U11, U12 and U13 sections held at Stanborough School last Sunday. Turnford proved too strong for the competition

The U12's started well considering they have been plagued by injury and only had 7 players sealing wins against Hatfield A 11-0, Shelley A 8-0, Hertford 2-0, Heath 13-3, Hornets B 11-0, Essex B 6-0, Cheshunt A 6-3, Asco A 7-2 taking them straight into Semi-Finals against Essex Open A. It was a very physical game and it took time for the team to adjust but they pulled it together in the 2nd half and won 3-1. Turnford tie their Opponents up in Notts - Nottingham Rally Sept 2007

A great start to the new season for Turnford. Their first tournament was in Nottingham where they took five age groups. U11s, U12s, U13s, U14s & U15s.

This was the very first tournament for this U11 squad and what a source to be reckoned with they will be. They did not drop a point all weekend beating Oaksway 4:3, Hertford Hornets 6:4, Oldham A 5:1, Oldham B 9:1 and Ribble Valley 7:2. There was excellent court play from Amber Forrow, Emily Bass and Abbey Rowlands and the accurate feed into the circle by Ellie Newman was superb. Given the fact that this was their first tournament the shooters, Bethany Hatherley and Jaimee Kennedy, kept their calm and were little short of amazing. But special mention must be made for the defensive skills of Hazell Collins, Lara Gamby and Sarah Dawes making many interceptions. The player of the tournament for this U11 section went to Sarah Dawes for her equal ability at both ends of the court.

Tegate Rally June 2007

At the recent ‘High 5’ Tegate Tournament held in Harlow, Turnford entered into the U10 section.  The team performed well and had a very exciting day.

They beat Alpha 9:3, Crosskeys 8:0, Tegate B 14:0, Asco 11:2 which put them through into the Semi Finals where they met Essex, but beat them 7:3. In the Finals they met Tegate A. This was a truly nail biting final as it went into extra time and then into Golden Goal and for the first time ever, certainly in the history of any Turnford’s involvement in Tournaments it went into a penalty shootout.  The strong nerve and accurate shooting from Amber Forrow, Emily Bass and Lara Gamby put them in the winning position of 3:1.
